As of July 2022, all Funeral Directors in Queensland are legally required to comply with the Fair Trading (Funeral Pricing) Regulations. These regulations are designed to make the prices of funerals more transparent for families and to make businesses more price competitive. Under the regulations, all funeral directors must:

  • Display a price list and publish the prices on their website of all the main aspects of transportation, mortuary care, funerals, burials and cremations
  • Publish the price of the least expensive package/funeral available
  • Disclose the location of the mortuary and crematorium that the company uses
  • Provide information about how a body is transported by the company prior to burial or cremation

Under the regulations, the Funeral Director is not allowed to enter into an agreement with you until they have provided you with an itemised price list of all the goods, services and disbursements that will be provided under the agreement. They must also provide the total amount that will be payable by you. See the government website about these regulations here: Funeral Services Regulations
